5 hours? No..... Eastern va, I'm in Richmond. I have been to the GW Forest and it only took me 2:15 hours to get there. Williamsburg to Richmond is only an hour - if that, right?
3:15 hours drive and I guarantee you - you will be in the most pristine, most incredible, peaceful, quiet, nobody-around-for-miles, type of hunting you will ever see! [8D]
...and - NO deer dogs! {Ooooo, did I just say that? <stirring the pot>..... }

Just sent you a B-mail, VA Head Hunter.
Butch, I definitely plan to hit the GW Forest starting next month. While were on the topic, do any of you know where there are wild hogs in this state? I was interested in hunting for those as well, if it's possible.

Whitewolf, did you move here from another state? If so, you should know that some of the critters you used to hunt just aren't here in VA. And, some are here in limited numbers. I remember a post a while back about this same subject. Hog hunting in VA is VERY limited. Pick-upa copy of the hunting regulations; it has some valuable info., also try the DGIF website: www.dgif.virginia.gov

So I'm learning, but at least it seems that the deer here are abundant, and goose, too, for that matter.
I've been on the DGIF website many times, and it lists quite a few species, but from what I've gathered here and elsewhere, and to further emphasize with Criggster pointed out,many of thoselisted just aren't as abundant as you might thinkand hence notworth hunting, unless you want to pay to do it on a preserve.
