Bump....

Guys, let me bump this back up to the top. I talked to Todd yesterday at work. He was going to check out the tract of land in Buckingham county on Wednesday to see what it is and where it is and what it looks like and all.

WE NEED AT LEASE 8-10 PEOPLE.... WHO'S IN?!?!?

Butch,

Just need the details etc.

RE: Starting A Hunt Club in Va.

I know... It looks promising, but then, we don't know any fine details yet. The whole place could actually be a pine forest with zero deer, you know?

Not to hijack this thread, but with me, I've been busy investigating the controversial "Sunday hunting" thing and the senate bill SB175. Word has it, it isgoing to be squashed again and again and again and again.... There are way too many opponents and way too much politics involved. I spoke with VA Farm Bureau and they told me the nitty gritty and how farmers, private land owners, and the VA Farm Bureau themselves are 100% totally, OPPOSED to allowing Sunday hunting. Heck, even the VA Deer Hunters Organization is opposed to it! I even spoke with Sen. Stolle's office in VA Beach and got no where.

So, now being extremely frustrated and a little pi$$ed off, I am looking at a hunt club in VA orsave my money and takea big out-of-state trip this season to Ohio or Kentucky or West Virginia.

Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr....... [:@]

I would try to keep the members at around 5 - 6 with no visitors on a tract that size.

RE: Starting A Hunt Club in Va.

YOU all will be happy to know that buckingham co just passed the rifle ordinance(for 2005). that was one of the reasons i didnt hunt here last year.

ButchA 08-10-2005 05:11 PM

RE: Starting A Hunt Club in Va.

Rifle ordinance? You mean they passed so you can userifles larger than a .22 for hunting, etc..etc...???? I know a bunch of counties that don't allow rifles.

Hey Todd did you get a chanceto look atthe property? What did you think of it?

todderr 08-11-2005 02:50 PM

RE: Starting A Hunt Club in Va.

Well guys I looked at the property yesterday. It doesn't look to bad. About 60% of the land has been clear cut in the last 2 or 3 years. About 75 acres is planted pine and the rest is creek drainage that has hardwoods in it. There is a good road system that dissects through the land. The part that is clear cut hassome tree tops that was left over. There are no food plots planted. I tooka lot ofdigital pictures butI don'tknow how to share all of them with you guys. Callor PMme for directions and anymore info.

Thanks Todd

The land is in Appomattox Co. not Buckingham Co.

ButchA 08-11-2005 04:18 PM

RE: Starting A Hunt Club in Va.

Thanks, Todd... PM is on the way. I think I know exactly where the land is. It'son the border of Appomattox and Buckingham, but just inside Appomattox county, near the state forest. Right?

Butch A.

Edit: My bad.... I checked the road atlas... Thanks for the PM. I know exactly where it is now in Appomattox county!

Butch,

forward me info as you get it, let's make this happen!

ButchA 08-12-2005 07:15 AM

RE: Starting A Hunt Club in Va.

I will.... From what I gather after talking with Todd and getting PM's and so on.... we all need to act on this pretty quick, or else some other guys might slip in and snatch itout from under us.

If I got time on Sunday, I'm going to take a drive out there and check it out too. I suggest we all start planning something soon and PM'ing Todd and/or calling Todd, since he was the first to take the reigns on this.

CAN WE GET A HEAD COUNT??? WHO IS PRIMARILY INTERESTED? SPEAK UP!!!!

VaSavage270 08-12-2005 08:35 AM

RE: Starting A Hunt Club in Va.

Butch, sunday sounds great to me to view the property let me know for sure you have my number.

RE: Starting A Hunt Club in Va.

Will do....

For Todd: Thanks man, I got the fax of the 716 acre tract of land. Yup... it's exactly where I thought. It's funny too because I was a stones throw from the area last time I was out there looking around and scouting around, and I didn't even realize it!!!

Looks great.... For everyone: I will take Todd's fax and scan it as an image file here at work and then save it on the network drive, then move it to my desktop PC, where I can easily email the image to anyone who wants it.

Butch A.

Edit: All done... Scanned to a .jpg image and also drew details and things. Also, went into microsoft terraserver website and did a snapshop of the topographical map of the area and rough drew the outline of it. PM me for details to the files, and I'll give you the address of them on my website.

RE: Starting A Hunt Club in Va.

Hey guys.... I just got back (8/13 @ 4:50pm). I decided to take the drive out to the hunting tract of land that Todd found. It's true.... It's right there off Route 60 towards Amherst.
I left my house at 1:15pm after grabbing something to eat and a can or two of diet coke for the trip.
I took the new 288 extension around the western end of Richmond, down to Route 60, and let it fly straight on out from there. I arrived at the main gate at 3:00pm. (total drive 1:45 minutes).

I had my old Canon A-1 35mm SLR camera with me to finish up a roll of film. The place is just like how Todd said it was. Clear cuts all over the place. Lumber trails here and there. But there's a lot of nice hardwood trees and small meanderings creek beds too.

The place is extremely easy to get to too. I mean, if you can't find it, then, well... I don't know what to say... ;)

For the size of the place (716 acres) we could a whole crew of VA guys to hunt it and really get a nice club going.

Oh yeah... I know Dave (VASavage270) will tease me about my "antiques" - my old '96 PSE bow and now my "old school" manual focus Canon A-1 camera. Hey it still works and takes great pictures. You all will have to wait for the roll to get developed and then I'll scan the photos.

Take care!
Butch

RE: Starting A Hunt Club in Va.

Update again: Hey guys.... I finished the roll of film and went up to Rite Aid to their 1-hour develop thing. I got the photos back and everything is great. There are 6 photos that I took of the tract of land. But I had to cut it short yesterday with the cameraas it was clouding up and was just starting to sprinkle.

Anyway, I am annoyed at myself right now because I can't scan the photos at home.... I have that little USB flatbed scanner and stuff, but where is the CD with the drivers?...in my laptop case at work!!! {Oh yay, way to go Butch!!! Duh!!!!}[:-]I last used the scanner on my company laptop and left the CD in the case.TOMORROW - I will scan the photos in sequence and will (Edit: email them to anyone who wants them in a zip file).

Hey Reggie(bowhuntr09).... Long time to hear! Yeah man, this hunt club thing that Todd discovered is pretty cool. It's way out 60 towards Amherst and is 716 acres of land! We gotta act fast and get a bunch of us together to jump on this, or someone might sneak in and snatch it up out from under us....

I'd say to send a PM to Todd as he is the one who found it and knows all the details.

Butch

I am interested in the hunt club. I just need to know what I have to do to join and whom to contact. I have been hunting Virginia since I was 12. In my 30's now. Just let me know who to contact and you can count me in.

todderr 08-15-2005 01:48 PM

RE: Starting A Hunt Club in Va.

I need a head count of who is definitely going to do this. If I can get at least 7 people to sign up for this I will go ahead and sign the lease. The price is still up in the air and will ultimately depend on how many people do this. I think we should have about 12 people max. What do you guys think? PM meor call me if you have any more questions.
Todd

RE: Starting A Hunt Club in Va.

I'm interested, but it depends on the cost per person, what types of rules will be in place, etc.. I have not seen any of those details discussed here as of yet. The overall description of the property sounds good, but before I commit to a cash outlay I want to know the fine print. Sound fair?

Same here. We need a bunch of people, IMHO. You see, with me, my wife controls the family finances and stuff... {you know how things like this can go....} [:-][&o][:'(]:( If we end up with only like 4 dedicated guys, my wife will probably be having a fit.

Todd,

I gave Butch an outline of members vs that of pricing in which we estimated. Price is a key factor too the masses IMO, don't want to put a strain upon any one hunter ya know. 12 sounds like a good number to me. I would probably max out to 20
