Default Suggestion from FL Hunters plz.

Hey guys first off thanks for taking a look at my post. Well i had a few questions. This year will be my first year to actually go hunting and i wanted to hunt some WMA land and was wondering if u guys had any suggestions of some good WMA running from about Orlanda anywhere down to the Florida Keys? Also does the land that ur suggesting require a quota permit to hunt on it? Im thinking of trying out Okaloacoochee Slough but i need a quota permit to hunt that area so if i dont get drawn i would like to have other areas as back up. Well any suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Thank You.

Green Swamp has the game ,but you gotta be good. Has a few hunters in it too. It's about 30 miles from you. The WMA is about 40 square miles. I've hunted it the last 3 years and shot..
one spike buck
one hog
16 squirrels.

You 'll need to scout hard and get away from the other hunters.

If your gonna hunt Orlando, you gotta hunt Tosahatchee! I've hunted there the last 7 years or so and have never been disappointed. All the hogs and deer you want with a little scouting. Last year I missed a shot at a doe during archery, but I didn't go one stand out of all 4 days without seein' game. That goes for everyone I hunted with as well. I've only hunted archery season there though because I got denied alot for quota gun, but now with the preference system, I'm hoping to get archery, muzzleloader and rifle. Feel free to contact me through my webpage below or PM. I've hunted almost every WMA in the northeast section and I'd be more than glad to give you some info before you put in for them in a couple weeks.

Edward,

I just read your hunting advice. I .m thinking about going there myself.
Is the camping free? Is the only way you can get in there is to send away for a quota between June 1st and June10th? And one more question. Are you allowed in there to scout one day prior to your hunting.I don't think you can just drive up there and hunt can you? Must have a quota.
Thanks .

This year the quotas will be over the counter as well as online. I'm pretty sure there is no more mail in's. Check the FWC webpage. They changed this with the alligator last year too. Tosahatchhee is a quota though for all of their hunts. There is no camping allowed during the quota hunts as of years past, but your so close to Orlando that you can easily get a hotel if your not from close by.I actually go home for lunch when I'm hunting and I live pretty close to downtown. Scouting is allowed anytime and you could probably camp then as long as it wasn't during one of the hunts. The day before thing is for putting in your stand. If you don't get time to scout, but you draw for there this year, let me know and I'll give you a couple of hot spots.

Thank you for your kindness. I will keep in touch. I have alot of possibilities this year but it's good to have a plan B. I down loaded a brochure and it looks like you can shoot any deer in firearm season.I'm from Lakeland which isn't too far.Since I can scout in advance does that mean the gate is open all the time? Thanks for the imfo.
