There is actually alot of comments on using a .22 for yotes. I suppose you can as long as you get a decent hit with one. Coyotes have equal sense to dogs since they are distant cousins to dogs. I'm sure the sight is pretty decent but they have good hearing and smelling. Its possible to get one with a bow but i think it would take lot of patients. Good luck on whatever you plan to use

Well from my experience the regular lead ammo always seems to jam every other shot. I'd go with some sort of hollow point would be the best ammo. I have gotten a yote but it was with a .300 Savage so i'm just throwing some ideas in the air for you. As for shot emplacement, some would tell you aim for the head but i think if that is you are close enough and are able to take the shot but i really wouldn't recommend it. Just behind the shoulder is good (2 - 2 1/2 inches behind it and 2- 2 1/2 inches above the underside line). As for shoot head on as if they were facing you, that is little tricky but aim mid chest. The neck area isn't really good because you are most likely just going to wound it and leave it to die a slow death if it doesn't end up surviving. I hope i gave you some ideas but give this some time and i'm sure more will come in and give you much better advice then me.

Young spike, if youre using a .22 Lr yes aim for the head! But if youre using a 22mag a shot in the chest will work. Coyotes are very tough Ive seen one get up after being hit with a 243. And if you have to use a 22 and have nothing bigger use CCI ammo like the velocitor,stinger, or the mini mags.

aborquez18 has got it 22 long shoot for the head full side shot or strate on. 22 mag you can kill them with side shots.Get a good ammo cci are very good.
As for senses
deer dont have crap on a yote.Yotes have some of the best smell sight and very very good hearing.Best to hunt in a tree stand with 22 or a bow. I have killed lots of yots with my bow only 1 was a drop all the reast ran for quite a ways.
They are a little difrant to call in than deer allso.Yotes like to use heavy trails and fince lines when responding to calls.Dont over call make them look for you with the 22 you will have to have them under 75 yards or so.Find a spot with quite abit of underbrush so he has to keep his head down and cant look up much.In open spots you will most likly get peged befor you get to shoot.
good luck my boy loves to go calling :}

From my limited experience their eyes aren't what'll getcha. Its that blasted nose and ears that will tattle on you. If you can get one with a bow, wear a freakin' HUGE smile 'cause you earned it.
22mag...go for it within 100 22lr....keep to 60yards and less even then I'd almost limit myself to "perfect" shots, like quartering away with direct access to the brain stem. Now if you mean the .22 caliber in general then heck yeah. .223 22-250 are old standards and both will make solid clean kills.
