Help with Coyot huntin?
#11
Okay... the 06 will make nice big holes in a yote, the shotguns are okay for short range, and I personally wouldn't use anything smaller than a .17HMR (and the .22LR is less powerful). I makes for a likely chance of just critically wounding the yote. Also, are you sure he said .470 and not .270? If it really is a .470, you might need it if you are attacked my a raging grizzly bear, and you can say goodbye to your shoulder without the proper equipment.
I'd go with the 06, myself.

have you shot the 30 06? if you can shoot it well i would use it with some fmj ammo easy to find and cheap. full metal jacket ammo will not expand and will leave small holes in the pelt. but if you havent shot it or dont fell comftable shooting it i would use the 12gage or the 20gage with a full choke and #4 buckshot but if you use the shot gun and buckshot limit your shots to 50yds hope this helps. if you havent shot the 30 06 ask your dad if he will take you out and let you try it. if you like it that would be the way to go. good luck! let me know how it goes.

well the thing about the 30 06 is that is IS my dads...so im thinking its prolly too big cuz my dads a BIG guy and im only 13 so im not sure if itll fit me too good its probably too long...I usually shoot my 20, i've never shot the 30 06, or the .410 (sorry he corrected me today haha its a 410) but my sister has shot it and she says its fine...i've shot the 22...but if we go yote huntin my dad will probably use the 30 06 cuz it HIS gun...(he gets very protective about that kind of stuff hehe) but yea so im not sure...

My honest oppinion would be to go with the 20 ga. I've never used one for varmints, but I know they'll work. Like the others have said, it HAS to be close range for you to be effective... no more than 50 yds.

Take a shotshell, size 6 preferrably, but any will do, and score the plastic just above the brass. Only score it (scoring mean to take a sharp knife and cut into but not through) about halfwa, or the shell will fall apart on you. With this method, you CANNOT use the reloading action of a pump, bolt, or autoloading shotgun. It must be handfed for the action to work properly. In any case, when the shot is fired, out to 75 yds on this, the entire plastic part oft eh shell seperates from the brass and flies out the barrel in one huge sabbot round. Also, the kick on this will increase, so be prepared for a good thump, which is why I'd use a 20 ga with this
