For the price and reliability, I've had great results with a Marlin model 60. I've never had it jam or missfire and that's with a few hundred rounds put thru it. I believe you would be well pleased with it. Good luck.

I'm currently saving for an Anschutz 1712 Silhouette Sporter with Monte Carlo stock.. It's an awsome rifle. As it should be for the price. Thus the reason I'm saving. But you can get a descent rifle for around $500.. like a Remington 504 or a Ruger 77/22 (which is a bolt action-legal in PA)

Have you looked at thr Henry lever action 22 long rifle?
Its made in the USA and not very pricey.
I have a model 10 single shot 22 long rifle I had when I was 10 yrs old.
And a marlin model 60 .
But my faverite is my Browning BLR 22 long rifle lever action.
Henrys weren't in the stores when I got the browning or I would considered it.
When they come out finely I want the new 17 HM2 its necked down 22 long rifle.( not the 17 HMR)
What ever you get Good Luck Hunting.
