Affordable Varmint Gun
Im looking for something for coyote hunting and overall shooting, and im on a pretty tight budget. I only want to spend about $300, and im not really wanting a single shot. Something cheap to shoot, maybe .223 or 7.62x39? I could get a sks with aftermarket stock and all the options fairly cheap, but is it worth it?Any good suggestions?

look into a Remington ADL, in 223, good gun, inexpencive, cheap to shoot, all around winner. Also keep your eye out for a second hand one. there is plenty of relly good deals out there. hope it helps

Take a look at a Savage 110 in .223 I would stay away from the SKS for hunting. I know they can kill but the accuracy may be lacking. Savage will at times have good prices on rifle/scope combo.

I have a savage 110 in 223. The rifle package I got was a simmons 3x9, sling, and trigger lock for $350. The sling was a little cheesy. But other than that it's a great shooter <img src=icon_smile_wink.gif border=0 align=middle>.

Check out the nearest wally world, they've usually got Savage 110 packages that already come with "decent" 4x scopes. They're a great gun for not a lot of $$$, I'd go with a .243, but it depends on what you like, I use a .30-06 (in Ruger Mark II), and some people use .222 or .223's. The savage would be a good gun for you for sure. Good luck with what ever you get.

WHOA WHOA WHOA!!!!!! I didn't notice that you asked about SKS's when I first skimmed your post!!!! I love mine, paratrooper length, folding stock, 30 round mag, bayonet, all I need is a scope for it. I've used mine for rabbits, coyotes, whitetails. Not the most accurate rifle I've shot, but I get 2.5-3" groups at 250yrds. It's a great brush gun. I wouldn't count on it past 350-400 to shoot anything smaller than a yote, and that's if you shoot it so much that your hand is molded to the stock. I'd go with a .223 or .243 a smaller bullet with longer case if you want a "great" varmint rifle, but don't rule out the SKS, it's a "good" anything gun, kinda like a whimpy version of a .30-06, a jack of all trades, just not as stout as a .30-06. Durable and semiauto is really nice, plus the bullets cost $4 a box, instead of $14+ a box.

Your thinking on the exact same page as me nomercy!Sks's can be decked out w/all kinds of aftermarket accesories and are super cheap to shoot, finally somebody sees my point!! I dont necessarily for "serious" varmint hunting, just a gun for my truck to shoot the occasional nuisance.thanx a lot.
