Try out this website for more info on the .17 HMR

By the way, Hornady claims a velocity of this .17 caliber/17 grain bullet to be at 2550 fps.

I drew first blood with my 17HMR this weedend, a squirrel at 60 yds out of a tree. 1 shot-clean kill with minimal damage. A+ in my book as I have it sighted in at 100yds and can hit 50 cent piece sized targets at 200! I hear you all on the wind drift issue, it be a bugger in the wind.

I shot my first anumal with my .17 last night...... It was a coon....... If i woulda hit it solid the first shot it woulda been dead right then and there but i broke his front leg, he was on the run....... second shot put him down real quick...
40-50 yard shot on the run. A+
also i can't even find the bullet hole for the second shot so its very fur friendly.

the 17 rimfire is goot out to 200 yards on a coyote, i use it all the time, i have droped 60 coyotes in the past 4 months with it, i havnt shot a center fire yet but plan on buying one some day. they are fun little guns once you learn how to shoot them well, if you go out and shoot a couple hundred every couple of days you get to know the gun awesome and when you go to shoot you know whats goin on out past ur barrel. u have to be good at judging windage and range past 200 yard. i have seen a rimfire hit a coyote at 300 yards, that the person shouldnt have tried a shot that far. it is all about shot placement
