Only people that are really going to benefit are the guys that live in rimfire only areas. Otherwise, it just doesn't play for me. The .17hmr was an answer to a question nobody asked, and this is just an improvement on that.

I agree with the idea, however, there is a LOT of room for new players in the rimfire world, so I'm glad it's coming and I hope it is well accepted. Heck, just think of how many 30cals all do the same thing in the field, 308, 30-06, 300wm, wsm, 30-378, savage, h&h, wby mag, etc etc. All that redundancy in a single caliber, then all we have are four rimfires? Welcome aboard 17supermag, hope you survive.

As you may be aware, I have always disagreed with guys who say that the existing 22s are sufficient for humanely shooting coyotes at any real distance. The energy and accuracy of this new little baby looks outstanding even at 200 yards and sure beats anythng else out in the market right now if you read the entire article. I think from what I just read that I would say it would be the way to go if you are limited to rimfires for yotes.

Frankly, I just don't see it a big jump over the .22WMR. Energy and Velocity are better but when it comes to bucking wind and killing at range. 25grn pills just aren't made to make it downtown, factor in bullet weight and diameter (Taylor Factor) and the .17WSMR lacks behind the .22WMR.

I do think it's neat that they are utilizing a power-driver case.

It's a jump over the other rimfires, but a huge jump? Not so much.

Within 100 yards or so................. fine.

With any windy conditions, you need to know how to "dope" the wind.

Shot placement is even more critical with that little pill !

I like a .17HMR best for critters within 100 (150) yards & under 25lbs

The Savage B-Mag rifle is supposed to be on the shelves. Has anyone picked on up?

I am up in Canada and we usually do not get new rifles here till at least a few months later that you guys.

Do these fit in standard .17 hmr rifles? Looking at the side by side, the round is twice the size.

Not sure exactly which question you're asking, so I'll answer both:

1) Can you shoot this from a .17hmr? (unlikely meaning, but in case someone else reads it and thinks that's what you're asking). No, none of the rimfires are interchangeable at all, especially the .17WSM from a .17hmr chamber.

2) (more likely meaning) No, it isn't going to fit in the same rifle. I think we're going to see this chambered in 'hybrid actions' like the Savage 25. The boltface for standard rimfire cartridges will be all wrong for the .17WSM, the pins wouldn't strike the primed rim.

Gotcha, I should have read the article closer. I thought it was just a more powerful .17 round. So I guess its a whole new cartridge. Kinda lame to have to buy a new gun.

The next question, is can you get the ammunition for it?
You can't find any of the ammunition that is in use now.
