Default Marmot hunt

Squirrel season in Colorado is from November (wasn't it Sept last year?) so decided to take a trip up Pikes Peak yesterday for my first attempt at marmot hunting.

I found a few likely places but saw nothing far enough from the road to legally hunt. It was fiercely windy so I put the .22 back in it's case and went to find a sheltered spot for a bit of bouldering (rock climbing). Of course that's when I see a marmot. I thought I'd get some practice seeing if I could get up on him before he bolted so stalked his position. I ended up close enough to use my handgun on him, which is a first for me.

It was my first trip this year too so I'm well happy that I've not only equalled the entire tally for last season but also my lifetime best already, lol. Which sounds much better than admitting I'm new to hunting and this is only the second thing I've ever successful hunted .

All in all a really nice hike, climb and hunting day, finished with roast marmot for dinner! I forgot to take a picture but did take a couple of snaps with my phone of Pikes Peak so they'll have to do you.
