Doin' Better
I called in my first coyoties the other day. They were too far off to get a shot off but its the first response I've had to my calling. I was sitting in a blind near a field and saw them come in down wind. There were five of them. They in on the opposite side of the field. They came out in the field a little ways, stopped and ran right back into the woods. Next time I'll use better cover scent and maybe kill my first coyote.

RE: Doin' Better
next time try to set up so you can nail them before they get down wind.the best way to do that is have a shooter down wind of you when your calling.congrats though on getting a response.but unfortunetly you now have 5 coyotes educated to your calling.

RE: Doin' Better
When I`am setting up to call I try to put a barrier down wind of my stand.
something like a creek, woven wire fence even a road, anything to make it a
little more difficult for the coyote to get down wind and catch my scent
before I can get a shot off. Its been my expierence that most coyotes will,
at some point in their responce try to circle to get down wind of my calling
location. By selecting a site that makes it a little more diffecult for them
to get there it keeps them in gun range a little longer.
