I had a live trap set up with footholds set around to where if the coon didnt go in it would get the foothold well on my to check trap i heard what i thought was a deer. but really was someone running with my traps.(found out later) I went to school came home and knew who took it because only one kid lives by me. And hes the only one that hunts and traps. The next day i went lookin trough the woods and found it a 100yards back from where i had it with his traps around it and mine. So i took it and his and left. What do you guys think was i in the right or wrong?

It would have been neat to take a few pics, show them to the landowner/gamewarden, and let them let this guy know you mean business, be it trespass, theft, etc. Now its just gonna be a back and forth thing for a while that might not end too soon.

Are you serious? You took his traps when you got yours back?Heres a thought that may not have occured to you. When he took your traps he was in possesion of stolen property, now you have yours back and your the one in possesion of stolen property.Realisticly if he wanted to he could have you arrested right now and odds are good nobody would believe you when you try to convince them he started it because he has no stolen traps in his possesion now.
In the future do one of two things, take your stuff and let it end there, or report the theft to the game warden. If you take his stuff just because he took yours youre not much better than he is IMHO and you pretty much screwed any chance you had of getting the law on your side if he chooses to escalate the problem.

It would not be a bad idea to mark your items with with special markings on the outside (not your name) and video your items. Show yourself on the video and anything special in the area that would help the local officials know what time of year and what year it was recorded. If you have your name on the outside, chances are it will disappear from your immediate area. For electronics, you could take it appart and mark the inside with your name, addresss, phone #, etc.
