RE: .223 or .22-250???
ORIGINAL: jecole360 I am considering purchasing remingtons 700 SPS for coyote hunting but I'm having trouble deciding on a cartridge. Most of my shots will probably be out there at about200-250 yards or more unless I canget them in closer but where I have been seeing them theyhave been about 200 yards out. I know a .223 has more knock down power but the .22-250 shoots flatter. I would like to sell the fur so I am worried about hide damage also.I guess I just need someone else's opinion. Any help??? |

What kind of scope are you going to top it with?

RE: .223 or .22-250???
If I might ask, Y the .223 since with that rifle you do have a wide variety of choices in caliber? Just wondering. Also if you haven't decidedwhat scope and your not looking to spend a whole lot might I suggest the one of the Simmons Whitetail Classics that are on sale at midway USA right now there are two. I just put the more expensive 6.5-20x50mm mil-dot reticle one on my coyote/deer/anything smaller than an elk rifle and it is real good. In fact it is the best value in any scope I have ever shot.

RE: .223 or .22-250???
I love my 223,I have killed them from 3 to 290+ yards with it and usually within 90 yards they like to get close in KY due to the hills and hollows and broken farm and forrest land, you will be able to kill them at 300 yards with it,my ruger loves the black hills 52 grain soft points and they dont explode like the ballistic tips,I like the hornady's for ground hogs, but they usually tear up some fur on coyotes.Good luck and good hunting!!
