I guess it was just a one dog day all around, as that's all that my buddy got today too. A little too warm around here I guess. We bumped a couple, and only called in 3 all day. First one was smart, swung way out wide to the down wind side, and my partner missed. Held over when he shouldn't have. We took a break this afternoon to practice on a few prairie dogs, and then finally on our last stand this evening, Icalled in a pair and my partner dumped one, but since they just "showed up", the filming wasn't anything to right home about.
The next two days aren't looking too promising in the weather department. Warm and wind are forcast![:@]
Good job on the kills guys.
Hey Rammer, how much notice do ya need!!

ORIGINAL: ilyotehunter

good shooting rammer. thats some beautiful land your on. whats the specs on your AR?
The AR is a Rock River Lower with the NM 2 stage trigger, ACE Skeleton stock. The upper is a Rock River Standard A4 upper, that I put a Hogue free float tube on, and made the front sight into a low profile gas block, then I added a thread protector so I could eliminate the flash hider. It actually outshoots my Rock River Predator Pursuit upper half. I have a Larue mount on it, and a Nikon Buckmaster 3-9x40, I was going to go with more magnification, but this is pretty much a truck/coyote calling gun so I didn't see any need for more magnification.

Howler - I don't need much notice! haha

Short morning for me. Made two stands, bagged one on the first, then the wind blew me out of the country.

Another one for you, Howler.

killed this one last week, with my buddys 30-30. Saw it cross the road when we got to his house, Ran in and said get the rifle. Was able to call him back across the road for a shot. Gave him the dog to have a hat made. I said that was the least I could do. A big ol male, went over 45lbs.

I should have stayed home this weekend and polished off a couple of cases of beer. Would have been a lot better than what I went through.

Good shooting, yodeldog.

Its kinda funny how Karma will bite ya....

I guess this was kind of a good sign... The first stand of the new year went great...( sort of )...
I took the kid from church that I took out on Monday... I really wanted to get him a coyote, and I was still razzing him really hard about missing on Monday, so as we were waiting for the sun to come up on the first stand, I was giving him a verbal lay of the land, and what kind of ground we were going to hunting since we were hunting my ground this time... We got set up, right before light, it got good enough to see and I lit up the first series or Rabbit distress, on my trusty Hedge DC1, the territory was kind of tight so I didnt want to blow anything out... I have had good success following that up with some Pup Distress almost instantly with the CH1... after the first series nothing.... I lit up the DC1 again, and I caught a gray flash trying to make it across the cornfeild.... At first glance I thought Gray Fox, then it got closer.... Coyote, small but killable for sure.... It was on a dead sprint towards us... it got to a point were it looked like it was going to break for the tall grass off to my left and behind us... 30 yards and closing of to my left... I gave it a little lip sqeak, and it made a be line right for us... "Remember I was razzing the kid, for missing on monday...." it got to about 15 yards, I barked, and it didnt stop... Now, its probabley Ten feet, and the crunching of the Corn Stalks is ringing in my ear... I yelled "hey" to stop him... He hit the brakes I pulled up and nothing but fur in the scope..." bang, miss, he spun and is on the exit bang, miss, bang, miss, bang miss........ Nic, walked over and said, what the heck just happened... I litterally was shaking like I had just been shot at myself.... I said I dont know....

Its been a long time since I had been rattled like that..... Thats Predator Hunting at its best.... It was just a little pup female, and she flat out rattled my cage...

Stand two, after I put some fresh pantys on....LOL... Called and thought nothing... We got in the truck and headed to stand three, and we seen a coyote that had back doored us, and was trying to make it out of the county before we cut him off with the truck and he sped off the other direction...

Stand Three.... Nothing... I think that the water came up and flooded out their bedding areas...

None the less... Nothing dead, but probabley one of the most memorable mornings in a while...

Mike

That'a boy #40fan, keep it up.
An 'ol lever action rifle is up to the task.Who says a guy needs fast little bullets to hunt coyotes. Good job yodeldog!!

That's what keeps us coming back for more Pure!!Myheart rate increasesjust by blowing on a call. SO you can just imagine what my body goes through when something actually comes![8D]

A couple of bulletins!!!!!!!! Jrbhunter has been found. Seems he's been out killin' too many critters and hasn't found the time to post any pics. Word is he's got a few kills that will be posted soon. Might be a shake up in the team standings. 2nd bulletin, I got some trigger time this last weekend, and will be posting a few pics. of my own when I get home tonight.

post'em up that lever action would be hard to dog hunt with all the time. The damn safety on those guns sucks, had a standing shot at 50 yrds. and the gun said "click"..... the second shot was running at 55 or 60yrds quartering away, he did'nt take it very well. That 30-30 is three times as heavey as the 204.

Hey Mike , nothing like haveing them in your lap to get the heart going ah.

I had 4 days of almost nothing but callin' coyotes. We killed 11, but i only got to pull the trigger on five of'em, and one of those won't count, since it wasn't called. We should've had at least 2 more, one of which got away because my friend forgot to load his rifle, and discovered the empty chamber when he hada coyote standing 30 yards directly infront of the gun barrel. He will catch flack for that for years to come.
1st stand on Sat. morning, we called in two. One came in about 2 minutes into the stand and my friend got it, and thena couple minutes later, #2 came charging in and I got it.
