My daughter and I were groundhog hunting yesterday when I spotted two adult coyotes and a bunch of pups on a farm that I deer hunt on,the pups looked healthy and about half the size of the adults so I decided to take out the adults and some pups for management on this prime deer farm.they seemed like they didnt even see us but I lip sqeaked and the pups perked thier ears up and the parents just layed there and looked,I steadied my rifle on the side of the massive oak,and as mom got up to gather her pups and leave I pulled the trigger and thump she stiff legged and sit down for the last time,the pups and the other adult acted as if nothing had happened,one of the pups presented me with a broadside shot so I give him the bullet also.Now the gig was up the rest headed for the hills,just in time because I let my 10 year old have the gun she decided she wanted in on the fun,but they wouldn't stay still long enough and got in the tree's and started yipping and howling,I was glad she was with me to see and hear everything it was a treat.I had just pulled off two lucky shot's with a 5mm rimfire at a 151yards with about 4in above the back hold over and made both of them count,I retreived the mom and decided to let the pup lay were he was he had made it into an aweful brier thicket that neither of us could get into we were both wearing shorts I normally dont hunt coyotes during the summer,nor do I ever hunt them with a rimfire rifle,but we were in search of groundhogs at 75yards around the barns and my daughter loves that 5mm its quiet and has no recoil,I just got lucky with a accidental sighting of a coyote family sitting around the edge of the woods.
