RE: yall lied to me
ORIGINAL: hihopehunter looks like you all lied to me. yall said you cant kill a coyote with a regular 22. turns out my uncle juust killed a coyote with a 22. at 35 yards he shot it right behind the shoulder, and it never went anywhere. |
RE: yall lied to me
The old .22 doesnt have the knock down power of a faster bullet. Shot placement counts, but the heart stopping shock can make up for a misplaced round.

RE: yall lied to me
That's why i prefer to use a .458 for my varmint hunting. Even if you miss them with the bullet, the shock wave usually gets 'em[&:]

RE: yall lied to me
did you clearly ask your uncle if it were a .22lr etc...? or did he just say a 22?
many guys will say i used a 22 meaning a 22 caliber, which can be a .223, .22-250 etc...etc... either way I'm sure its possible to take a coyote with a .22lr, though not ideal at all. I'm pretty sure a .22 has probably killed most creatures in NA at least once.....I personally have heard of either a moose or brown bear being shot and killed with one. |
RE: yall lied to me
ORIGINAL: JoeA I just saw a real cool clip of Tim Wells on Relentless Pursuit busting a 'yote with some tracer ammo. Don't know what kind, but I figure it was .22mag Awesome effect. |
RE: yall lied to me
I'll tellya one other thing, If you could get them all up to 35 yards with no brush, knolls, hunters, callers or comin in the back door on ya, well yeah a 22lr could kill SOME yotes. After you have killed more than1 or 2 dogs you and your uncle would know that it dont always happen that way

RE: yall lied to me
i killed a 150# hog with a ear shot and .22 mag....i'm sure that a .22 would kill a coyote....but why risk wounding and losing one when you could easily put it down with a .223 or .243
