Coon trouble
ok guys if anybody is catchin coon please tel me how. last year i cought 21 in 3 days this year i sety about 40 conibears around ponds and stuf n ahve cought 1 yea 1 idk what is goin on but is anybody doin anygood w/ dogs or anything. any ideas how i can salvage this season

i been runnin atleast once or twice a week with my buddy...he runs a Walker...weve been putting down coons every night...usually 3-5 in 2-3hrs of hunting and let the smaller ones stay up in the tree unless we are running his pup...
head for the corn and creek bottoms and look for sign around and inbetween the 2...

If it's cold, maybe around the ponds isn't a food source for them anymore. Find the food source and you will find the coons, maybe corn fields or acorns close. We have been having a good season with the hounds and traps.
I don't know about Ohio, but sometimes distemper can ruin a year around here if wehad a dry summer.

I trap along the Great Miami river north of Dayton. The coon numbers are really down this year and some folks are blaming it on the dry weather. I had traps out for five nights and caught one coon. I have heard similar reports from other folks around here.

Whatever it is, things aren't nearly as bad in Illinois. I'm running some traps here while visiting for the holiday. I've got about a dozen sets out and caught two coons and a mink yesterday, then six coons this morning/
