A great gun to get would be the Browning 17HMR, it is one of the greatest varmit guns.

I've never seen a Browning in 17HMR before. Do you have a picture?

Is the Browning a Bolt, semi or lever? I looked on their website and didn't see one on there.

Just my opinion, but I wouldn't consider the Browning....it really isn't in the same league when it comes to calibers. The .17 HMR just doesn't have the punch as the .223, and I don't even think its that much cheaper to shoot. The .223 is a centerfire, while the .17 is a rimfire. Go to Remington.com and check out the ballistics of the two, I think that will clarify it for you.

Browning makes some good rifles as well, I don't have any personal experience with them, but thats what I've heard. Check out their rifles, I just wouldn't go for the .17 caliber.

Thanks for all of your input guys. I ended up getting a savage model 11 22-250 with accutrigger. This thing packs a punch. We killed 3 hogs over the weekend all under 100 yards. 6 coons came out in the corn field when we were shooting hogs. Got all of them. Im very pleased with my purchase. I plan on adjusting the trigger to a lighter pull this week.
