.243 is a fine gun . Ammo can be abit expensive . It was my first .243 that got me reloading . I'm sure there is good ammo out there for a resonable price . It will explode small varmints . Great gun .

The .243 is one of the sweetest calibers there is. I have been shooting .243 since 1971. It is a great gun for groundhog, fox and coyotes. She will be a flat shooter and I have easily taken groundhogs out to 200 yards with a good rest. Shots beyond that distance are not a problem with the .243. 80 grain bullets will be less affected by the wind.
What revolutionized my .243 was the Hornady Varmint Express, 58 grain moly coatedammunition with its 2700 fps velocity. I have never fired a handload or other factory loadthat can equal its accuracy in mypersonal .243. I lucked out in having this shoot so well inthat particulargun. I hope this load will work good in yourrifle. If it is accurate in your new rifle, you will not believe the results you will get when you hit game with it.......Good luck.

you're doin good with a .243. i bought one for my wife. its like posted above, good for anything, and it's a popular enough caliber that you have lots of ammo choices even if you don't reload. great all around gun, might be a little rough on some smaller furbearers, but a lot of that can be taken care of with choice of bullet. good huntin.

I've had a .243 for a couple of years now and i love it. Its taked 4 deer and a coyote, and they all dropped in their tracks. I shot the coyote with a 100 grain deer bullet and it dropped on the spot with a small enter wound and the same size exit. So i would highly recommend it
