does it matter if a trap is rusty

all i know is not to oil them because that will keep animals away if anything

If it traps, it'll work

I have used rusty traps, but I usually speed dip them with the stuff you mix with gasoiline. Makes them last longer, shut smoother and quicker, and keeps the springs from going bad.

Yes you can use it as long as its still in working order, but I would rub it down with some steel whool first. If its rusted to the point that chunks are flaking off, then just buy a new trap.

what are you trying to trap? and if it is to rusty it won't operate fast enough to catch any thing

You should be dying your traps anyway.That keeps them from rusting.

a friend of my dads does alot of trapping ive seen him coat his traps with PAM canola oil spray.

You should not have any flakey rust on any trap.Foothold traps should be speed dipped.Conibares should be died.Cages should be made mostly of galvanised steel,So no problem.Anything you can catch in a cage should not mind a shot of WD 40 to make it smoother.
