I have a savage 17 hmr and freakin' looooovveee the thing. It is the only rifle that from 100 yards it hits EXACTLY where the cross hairs are at....at least the only rifle I have ever owned.

There is one negative that I have found over the 22 mag....the ammo is about three or four dollars more expensive per 50 rounds. So when I'm spending 10 bucks for 50 rounds of vmax...a 22 mag owner will be paying 7 or 8 bucks.

Over time, that can make a difference. If I had a choice and to do it all over I would pick my 17 any time! Especially since my buddy has the 22 mag and it just doesn't seem as fun or as accurate when shooting it!

Here is the actual rifle....I was about, what seemed to be...three hours before they started putting the accu trigger on them. I have a friend that has the savage...it isn't the heavy barrel 17, but it does have the accutrigger, and it is a super sweet addition to an already accurate and hot weapon!

For shooting dogs I would go with the 22mag. I've shot a half dozen or so coyots with my 22mag and it has anchoered everyone but one on the spot, the one only made it 30 yards or so then expired.

So? The .17hmr is faster than the 45-70 too, but which do you think would anchor a coyote best. [8D]
