On one of the other hunting post, a guy had the same problem at his camp. He went to Lowes or Home depot & bought one of those electronic vibrating sounds for under $20. He & others raved about it.

Tex, Just get a 5 gallon bucket and smear peanut butter around the inside about 3 inch's down from the top, put about a gallon of water in thebucket and a pole up to the top of the bucket and you will catch mice by the dozens keeping them out of the trailer. Put it just outside or even inside you will wipe out whole families.. Walt
Here's a similar type of idea I saw in a buddy's hunting shack.

It's a 5 gallon bucket half full of water. You take the normal handle off and bend a coat hanger to reach across the opening. Take a empty beer/pop can and drill a hole in the center of the bottom. Run the coat hanger through the pop can and hook it into the handle holes. Smear chunky peanut butter over the sides of the can. LEan a 2x4 or some other piece of wood up against the bucket on 1 or more sides. Set it in a dark corner of the room/shack and let it work.

Here's how it works:
The mice smell the peanut butter and go up the ramp to get it. They try to reach out for the peanut butter and put their front paws on the can for balance. As soon as they put any pressure on the can, it spins, they lose their balance and fall into the water where they eventually drown.

No mess, easy to make and clean (dump out mice and water) and it keeps working even after you have caught one. Plus, it's fun to be sitting around telling hunting stories and hear splashes from the corner of the room

Thanks for all the reply's guys. I didn't realize this would be such a popular topic, but I guess I'm not the only one with a pest problem. I'll let all of you know how it works out for me this weekend. It will be the first thing I do when I get to the ranch. If you've got any other ideas keep em coming. Thanks again. JD

If you need a good long lasting bait for a mouse trap, take a half a Jelly Bean and stick it on the trigger. It will last months, and mice love them.

I also think I heard moth balls (the little white crystal balls, not the other kind) keep mice out, spread them around the camper. I also had a lady swear that hedge apples from a osage orange trees work good to. Never tried either method but have heard about them both.

this is what my father-in-law has done in the past when he has a rat / mouse problem and he gets quite a lot of them. Just make sure to check it often...there will quite a few in there. You might as well use the bad peanut butter that has salmonilla.

A common minnow trap will catch dozens of mice just hang your bait in the middle where they can't reach it & block it so it won't roll there cheap and work great!

Yep, moth balls work well. You may have to replace them once over the winter because they deteriorate, but they do work.
