Best gun is deffinatly the one you shoot well. Personally I love useing my ruger chambered in .257 roberts but I am know to take out my 7mm-08 at times as well. Have killed a couple while crow hunting useing my .204 so it all depends on what you want.

222 is not to small, 22/250 is ok if your taking long shots!! but 22/250 is not fur friendly.
.223 is ok I use one on occasion if I am hunting thick stuff and I need quick follow up shots.
I go for my 204 mostly, it just shoots flatter further and is very fur friendly and our coyotes are up to 50 pounds very often.

Ive talked to alot of people that have shot yotes with a .17 in the sweet spot and they still run off. My first choice would definately be a .223 though. anything lower than a .204 your pushing it.

I have a .223 and it works good. If I were buying a gun exclusively forvarmints, I would buy a .204 or a 220 swift. The .204 witha 40gr bullet has more energy and velocity down range than a Swift, no matter what bullet is used, even though the push higher velocities out of the barrel.
