I would notuse a .22 LR on coyotes - they are real tough animals - I would use nothing smaller than .22-250 up to whatever depending on if you plan on selling the pelt or not.
I use a .243 myself with good results - I have also shot them with .12 gauge slugs and with 00Buck shot down to #4 shot
A .22 will kill them if you hit them in the right spot of course but if you hit off you're going to loose it and it will more than likely run off and die somewhere do to infection. I have seen bear killed by poachers with a .22 but like I said that's not something I would count as a sure thing.

I highly recommend the .22lr for dispatching coyotes........................................... .................................................. ................that are in leg hold traps! One shot in the noggin' works every time. Otherwise, get a larger caliber!
