Default Trapping otter?

Ok I have a problem with otters getting into my fish ponds and they're starting to take their toll on the fish population so I wanna get rid of them. I have some #1.5 steel leg traps that from what I understand will catch an otter and I have a couple live traps big enough for a big coon. So I figure ill try all of my traps out but im not a trapper so how do I catch an otter on a live trap or sttel leg trap? Whats a good bait and way to set it all up? Anyone got any tips for me?
Thanks,sean

I have not trapped in many years but I would go for one of the strangle type traps (conibear or a snare)... from what I know about otters they will utilize some sort of slide which should be easy to find. I would put a snare over that slide... with some brush to kind of camo the setup and direct them thru it. Good luck.

If you do not plan on doing anything with them I would use the live trap for a while first. I would get some fish oil and put it around and in the trap to attrack them. Use a can of plain sardines or something simular, after spreading the oil around it set the sardines or what ever in the trap for them. Then check every day and see what happens. Also have a warden or someone release them as they can be very mean. Good Luck
