I want to start rabbit hunting, and I have a 3 year old Jack Russel Terrier who has more energy than you can imagine.
Can I use him to flush the rabbits out?

if you can get him started getting into the brush, once he hits a rabbit or two,you got it made.just watch the dog, jacks are quick,he may be close on the rabbit don't hit your dog.
I am not a hunter I am a whitetail population reduction specialest
remember keep your back to the sun, your knife sharp, and your powder dry.

Is he a pud (short legged) or standard? They're both tenacious at chasing the rabbit but the puds are slower and will give the rabbit more lead. You may want to use a locator collar as the JRs are small, quick enough (and pig headed enough)to move out of sight, and libel to go down any hole they find interesting.

I've never owned a Jack Russel, but if he's smart I don't see why he couldn't do it. I'd say he might even catch more than you shoot!

Thanks guys.
He's a short haired, and he is a demon!
He's brough mice in before, and he loves barking and chasing anything that moves(including other dogs).
He does run away, so I"ll have to keep him on some sort of leash, or put a large rope behind him.
