Default Scope for 22-250 coyote gun

Hey everyon this is my first time posting so if this has been discussed please don't flame me for it. HAHA

I got Rem 700 in 22-250 for me and my gf's 4th anniversary and was wondering about a scope for it. Right now I have a 3-12x50 BSA on it that just insn't gonna cut it. I have a leupold 4-12x50 on my 300 and it's just hard to beat. What would be a good power scope for the gun, not wanting to spend 400 bucks. I was looking into the Leupold VX-1 or Rifleman in 4-12x40 because of the zoom, but like the 3-9x50 for the wide field of view and light gathering. I will probably be shooting as far as I can see, haha from 1yd to 500yds prolly. What would be the best power in your opinions?

Thanks for the Help,
Kyle

i would stick with a 3-9x40 for that close of distance. i would also go with the burris fullfield on scopes if you are not wanting to spend alot. they are real nice and theyhave a ballistic plex reticle which compensates bullet drop from 100 to 500 yards. sorta like a milddot scope and they only range about 160 in price.they do make this scope in higher powers as well for not much more money if you decide to go that rout. good luck

I dont like a 3x9 scope for shots that long. I would rather have a scope like a Nikon buckmaster 4-14x or a Weaver classic 4-16x(which is on my 22-250) or a Bushnell 5-15x 3200. These scopes are all in cheaper price range and seem to be pretty nice.

A 4-12 Leupold rifleman is way over price at 225ish for the quality of that scope. IMO they are no way worth that kind of money.

A few good sites to check out to order a scope are

www.natchezss.com
www.dnrsports.com
or ebay

Natchezz has the 4-14x refurbished Buckmaster for 229. Which is a pretty good deal.

I have always gotten along fine with a 3-9X40 Buckmaster on top of my .223. My 25-06 has a Leupold VX-III 4.5-14x40, which is about perfect for any varmint rifle. It is a good scope, but unless your getting a VX-III, you'd be better off with a Monarch or a Buckmaster. The less expensive Leupolds still cost more to deliver the same results as a Nikon.

Hey everyone thanks for the info. I was kinda joking about the 1 yrd it will probably be at least 75 yrds. Looking at the links Duckbutter sent I think I may go with the nikon buckmaster 4.5-14x40 SF Mil Dot. are the mildots for anything in particular or are they for mainly prairie doggin? How would that choice be for little over 200 bucks?

If you like the scope on your .300, why not put it on your 22-250. I like being able to see a wide view through my scope when im hunting, it makes it easier to see what youre shooting at.

Well my 300 is my deer gun and also silver where my 250 is black. I would get another but they are a little expensive for now.

Youll be happy with that Buckmaster. And no the Riflemen scopes are not in the same class as the Buckmasters and the 3200's. I have 3 Leupolds 2 VX IIs and 1 VX III and those scopes are just as good as a VX II just a 100-150 cheaper. IMO the Leupolds are way over priced for what you get compared to other brands.

What do you think about the reticle? Should I go with the mildot or nikoplex?

Well thats up to you. If your talking varmit scope the mildot is a cool idea for the longer shots but I think its more of a personal preference more than ones better then the other to honest with you. I would prob go with the Nikoplex but thats what Im used to, I dont thinks its any better then Mil-dot, actually the Mil-dot is prob better for most people. If you like or get used toit you'll be fine. I think you can argue it either way.

Either way alot of practice will have to go in to those 300yards + shots. Good luck with what you decide and try to get some nice bases rings for it also. Like the Leupold or Burris.
