There are differing theories on dye and its value. Some use it to help blend the trap. Others use it to help protect the trap. Some paint their traps with rustoleum, others dip them in a thinned latex base. I paint mine with rustoleum as an added measure of protection, and then wax them to protect the metal, increase the speed in which the jaws close, and help keep them from freezing down. What are you planning to trap? As stated above, go to www.trapperman.com. The forum archives are loaded with info to help you prepare your traps, differing options in terms of anchoring them, tuning them, and how to make sets for the animal(s) you are targeting. www.traps4kids.com is also an exclellant site. Make sure you know your local laws and meet legal requirements regarding licenses, seasons, trap tags, etc.... It is a blast. Enjoy.
