22. WMR for Close Range Coyote's
I'm lookin at buying a Remington 597 with a heavy barrel. I plan on using it for Coyotes up close, as well as fox, woodchucks etc. Has anyone used this round with any success for these critters?

I would recommend a centerfire also, something you know will do the job and not leave a bunch of cripples.I know you say close range but that never seems to work people always tend to stretch the shots .

I can recommend against the Remington 597 altogether. It has a terrible trigger system. Many critical parts are plastic. No room for adjustment.

Shooting 'yottes I have no experience with... 22WMR I have some experience with, I would have to say it would be a fine round IF ranges are kept inside of 50yds (max unless you are a damn fine shot) and If you use a good hollow point bullet.

This is such a replayed topic. It seems this comes up about every 2 months. But here is my answer:
I've used my Winchester 9422 lever action .22win mag now for almost 10 years. Along with a .17Rem and .223 (both centerfires). I'd say that 90%of my predator hunting time is with my .22win mag.
I've never lost a coyote with the .22WMR. Then again, I get all camo'd out and "de-scented" and try to call a coyote to within "bow-range". I generally shoot when the yote is within 15-20 yards or closer. I enjoy the hunt much more when I can call the animal in as close as possible.
22WMR works for me. CCI hollowpoints is what I use.
