you have a marlin model 70, not a 10/22. the top of your receiver should have a dovetail the entire length of it. scope rings clamp onto it. go look at the $30 scopes at walmart, the ones on a shelf and not behind the counter, most of them have the scope rings that will clamp onto the dove tail. they come in 2 different sizes, and 1 size does not fit all.

I have a scope on myMarlin 60 . It's drilled and tapped for the included scope base , the scope came with rings .
If your "heirloom" isn't drilled and tapped you'll need to take it to a gunsmith . Have it fitted with a 3/8" dovetail base andget a low to medium price power scope .
