Thanks for the info. I need to be above 50# for the min draw weight for hunting here. I used to do some fishiing with a 50# bow, so I have an idea of what it will be like. It's local, so I will be...

I'm looking to get back into bowhunting after a several year hiatus. I'm looking at an Archery Traditions Recurve 59# @ 28" for $150 used on Craigslist. I'm not too familiar with the brand. I can't...

Bad mistake

I was shooting with a friend and ran out of ammo. I asked him if he had any 30-06 left (he was shooting multiple calibers). He handed me a fistfull of shells. I wondered why my aim was so bad...

RE: .44mag vs .45acp?

So I guess the more intelligent question would be should I hunt with .44mag or .454 casull? Both have plinking rounds (.44special and .45lc respectively). How are they for knock down power and...

RE: .44mag vs .45acp?

What would be better between the .44mag and the .45 long colt? I'm looking to bring down deer with it, not just for a finisher. I want to be able to hike light when I hunt and cover lots of ground....

.44mag vs .45acp?

I'm looking for a handgun to carry while deer hunting. I am trying to decide between the .44 magnum and .45 acp cartridges. I want a revolver. I have not yet fired any of the newer models. I like the...

What is a High-Powered Rifle?

When people talk about a high powered rifle, what exactly are they talking about? The way some people talk, anything bigger than a .22 is "high powered". Usually, I hear it in reference to guns that...

RE: Which Scope?

Sightron SI 3-9x40. It's new, but I like it so far. It's brighter than any of my freind's scopes and it was easy to sight in.

RE: Bulk Ammunition

What can I expect from 1960's production rounds like these? I never thought about it, but does ammo have a shelf life? I remember finding some old 12 ga. shells in my grandpa's cellar that shot fine,...

RE: New Gun

Thanks. It does kick like a mule, but it's very accurate right now and I don't really want to do anything that would affect that. It actually came with a decent kick pad already on it. It's also...

Bulk Ammunition

Is there a way to get .30-06 ammunition in larger cases than the 20-round boxes at the store? Is it available in the big square green cans like military ammunition?

RE: New Gun

I took it out to break it in Saturday. The recoil wasn't bad, just a nice satisfying punch. I love this gun. I started breaking & sighting it in at about 30 yards. The very first shot I make with it...

New Gun - Now With Pictures

Thanks to all who gave advice and helped with this decision. I went with the Remington 700 SPS .30-06. I put a Sightron SI 3-9X40 scope on it with Leupold rings. I plan on breaking it in Saturday....

Remington or Savage?

Thanks to all who answered the post about the Remington 700. I've changed my mind now and I want a .30-06 instead of a .308. I was at the store looking at the Rem. 700 SPS and also saw a Savage (not...

I am looking to get a .308. I have heard many good things about the Remington model 700. I'm not exactly sure what the diference is between the various sub-models. I am leaning towards the SPS...

RE: Guns from Walmart

The search function needs to be fixed, not removed. I did a search for walmart across all the forums and came up with nothing. Sorry if this is a repeat.
I'm not a fan of Walmart either. I've seen...

M40 vs. Remington 700

I've read that the millitary M40 sniper rifles begin their lives as Remington 700 model rifles and that the 7.62mm NATO rounds they fire are equivalent in caliber to a .308 Winchester. If this is the...

RE: New Guns

Thanks for the advice. I've never used a gun with bottom eject. What is the advantage of that? I like the idea of a thumb safety. I still find myself looking when I use the one on the trigger guard.
