what on earth are you hunting with a 30-30 that you need that heavy of a bullet? With the heavier bullet your moving slower & your range won't be as far with the heavy bullet.

I hand load all my hunting loads the only time i shoot factory loads is to burn them up for the brass to reload. factory loads are very inconsistant they want to mass produce them so they can't spend...

i personally shoot a 30-06 & love it. i do have a 308 that is also a very good rifle for deer. i load mine up with a speer 150g boattail. i use that for everything from deer to elk & i know it work...

if you use the right size rifle for what your shooting at your shot placement is what you need to be concerned about not the ft/lbs.

don't worry about your age as long as you can enjoy what your doing. my brother in law is going hunting with me & my dad this year me is 32. like jimbohunter said be patient and don't get frustrated...
