Get a 270 WSM. They have a lot of knock down power, they're long range and flat shooting, it would be perfect for what you said you needed. And if you want a 300 I would go with a ultramag or wea....

I'd get either the 270 WSM or the 300 Win Mag because the 300 WSM isn't much better than a normal 300 Win Mag. It really depends on how far away you shoot things from and what you hunt.
