The RNT Daisycutter is a great clear sounding open water call. It is real easy to overblow though but if he gets it figured out its "lights out". He can also get replacement corks and reeds for it...

I have picked up the T3 Lite before and its extremely light. If recoil is a factorat all I would steer away. Something that light has to put a pounding on the shoulder.
