Zeiss over Leupold?

I agree with that, 4.5-14 is the highest magnification scope I have on a big game rifle and it came with the gun.
That Vortex 6.5-20 I ordered is going on a RRA Varminter, and honestly it may be TOO much scope.

I have both a zeiss and a VX3, The 2-8 vx3, is much lighter than the 3-9 zeiss, both are very solidly constructed, although the zeiss has a few plastic parts, and the VX3 is all aluminum, if that matters but I would def. say the zeiss wins for clarity and brightness. I paid 399$ for both 3 yeas ago. Personally I wish I bought 2 bushnell 4200s w/ rainguard, both my zeiss and leupold are useless in the rain

The 4200's are excellent scopes. Keep your eyes open as there will probably be some great deals on the 3200's and 4200's since Bushnell has discontinued them.

Ive handled the Zeiss and the leupy since the start of this thread......while not in field conditions, the clarity of the Zeiss imho is not worth the extra coin over the Leupy, and the Leupy was excellent in eye relief, which means a lot to me in real world hunting conditons where shooting positions arent always ideal.

Don't get all wrapped up in excessively high magnification at the expense of low end magnification. 10 - 12 power is more than enough magnification for big game hunting out to several hundred yards. I personally wouldn't want to go over 4X magnification on the low end unless it were on a long range specific rifle.
With a 50mm objective lens you are going to get in increasingly darker image when you get above 10X magnification. Just because you can crank it up to 18 or 20 times magnification doesn't mean you are going to be able to see what you are looking at.
Leave the high magnification scopes for the specialized long range and varmint rifles.
