RE: Lead Ban

I could imagine a flux in the market. Hurry everybody buy as much lead as you can. Wonder if that's what Nosler is wanting?

I still don't understand why they would ban lead bullets... shot I totally understand...bullets though? What harm does the pistol bullets do?

Briman,

Theres a plant here in Tampa Fl. that manufactures Auto Batteries and other batteries, "Johnson Products."
They slap on different Labels for different companies.
All employees must have to have a blood Test every six months cause of Lead poisoning.

I had a friend who use to cast hundreds of lead bullets for Sheriff Deputies.
He died at 52 from lead poisoning.

Storing lead in your garage is like having Asbestos Shingles on your house according to the EPA!
There are States who are banding Lead Sinkers for fishing.

I'm not telling you what to do or how to live your life, but I'm sure you don't want to go round and
round with the EPA for storing Lead at home. You aleady mentioned you have 600 pds.

Employees at bullet manufacturing plants are also at risk! They have families Too!

Also the FED's already banned lead shot for water fowl shooting, so don't think they won't ban lead core Ammo!
The US Military is already testing with Tungsten Nickel core bullets.

RE: Lead Ban

Rebel Hog- there's a neat thing called ventillation. I use plenty of that when casting. ;)
Lead sitting in buckets in my garage is no more harmful than the wheelweights and battery terminals on the vehicles sitting in your garage.

The most dangerous thing a shooter can do to increase their exposure to lead is to shoot at an indoor range- Lead styphnate from primers is readily absorbed into the bloodstream when inhaled, unlike ingots of lead sitting on a shelf. The next most dangerous thing a shoter can do is eat, drink, or smoke while shooting. Next down the list is to eat, drink, or smoke after shooting without washing one's hands and face first after shooting. Casting lead bullets in adequate ventillation is far down on the list of how to get exposed to dangerous levels of lead.

Also the FED's already banned lead shot for water fowl shooting,
They did this on the bogus notion that bottom feeding ducks were dieing of lead poisoning, yet I can guarantee that there have been 1000x as many ducks lost and wounded from steel shot than died of lead poisoning. California is working on the same bogus assertion that condors are eating bullets found in lost game and dieing of lead poisoning. They know that banning lead bullets will drive up the price of ammunition astronomically and will discourage people from shooting sports and hunting.

Employees at bullet manufacturing plants are also at risk! They have families Too!
I work in a much more hazardous environment than they do, yet I won't lobby to ban pharmaceutical and chemical manufacturing if I ever get sick, because like the lead workers, I chose to work there. Noone is forcing me to do the job I'm doing, and noone is forcing anyone to work in a battery or bullet plant.

Please save your rediculous rhetoric for people who don't know any better.

actually the military through the tungsten core idea for bullets out the window because it was too expensive and not practical, awhile back there was tungsten core 5.56 ammo sold as surplus... very expensive surplus lol was going for $19 per 20 shots. ouch and the stuff is basically worthless unless you had other ideas or illegal means to use them.

The people that work at plants where they are around lead all day, hey!! they have a choice they dont dont have to work at places like that, yes they have families too, so on the contrary they work at those places to provide for their families........ if lead is banned then those same folks will be out their jobs which would keep them from providing for their families, did you think about it from that aspect??? probably not. I talked to a friend who owns a gun store in town who knows the owner of Bullet meister and also knows the owner of Montana Gold bullets, I asked him about the supposed lead ban he said he knew nothing about it, about an hour later and 2 phone calls later he had talked to both owners of those bullet companies I mentioned. And they too have not heard anything about a lead ban for 2008. I wonder if nosler is just trying something to boost bullet sales or something to that effect like the primer scare in the early ninties, supposedly the feds were gonna regulate primers so they would have to go bad after 2 years of storage. Or maybe rebel hog is a tungsten stock holder and has his own agenda here...... LOL :D:D I think rebel hog just doesnt have his facts straight. Rebel Hog you need to be careful about what you say, you may wind up with a slander suit against ya some day.

RE: Lead Ban

I talked to my uncle who worked and retired from the EPA, He said the EPA has been trying to ban lead for a long time now, according to him atleast the past 30 years. He said that they propose a ban every year, and that there is even a ban pending for this year. But there are always stipulations that shoot down the ban proposals ie too much revenue comes from the lead industry and also provides alot of jobs and a ban on lead would hurt the economy to bad for the feds to go for it. My uncle also said a complete lead ban would surprise him, especially by 2008 would really surprise him. He said the only thing that could or maybe reinforce the possibilty of a lead ban in 2008 actually happening would be when Bush's term is up we get a democrat president and a primarily democrat house, that would be about the only way a lead ban could happen, even then that doesnt guarentee anything. After talking to my uncle the idea of lead being banned in 2008 is nothing more then a farse. I really wouldnt worry about it .........

This is the first I've heard of this. I'd like to hear EXACTLY where Nosler, (or anyone else for that matter), got their information from. I've been reloading and casting bullets for almost 35 years, and have never had any ill effects. Right now I have almost a ton, (75 bags) of shot in my garage along with about 1500 pounds of lead and alloyed ingots for bullet casting. Nobody is getting sick. Lead has been with us for a long time, and I suspect that it will be with us for a lot longer. My guess is this is just more internet BS. Bill T.

RE: Lead Ban

Somewhere I have a printed version of a detailed study that showed lead shot is a crock. It does no harm. I know one thing-- i've panned for gold a few times and lead shot comes with it. Those would have to be some hellish ducks to root it out. And as heavy as it is, in any water it won't stay on the surface long.

As mentioned the ground is naturally full of lead anyway.

It's all a knee jerk reaction and is BS.

Now, if they have not banned Camp Perry yet I wouldn't worry about Nosler knowing anything. As much lead as Perry puts into Lake Erie........

Though I do not suggest ingesting or eating lead as a hobby.
