a little wild cat humor!!!
if it were at all possible to utilize the pressure without blowing up the barrel, I wonder how fast a 40 grain .224 cal bullet would fly if it were propelled by a 50 BMG necked down to a .22? any physics guys here that could figure this one out or give a rough Idea? Im gonna guess and say 9,000 fps or are there any laws of physics that would keep a projectile from moving that fast?

RE: a little wild cat humor!!!
I did some Quick figuring
It would need a 120 - 150 " barre lto burn the powder
But barrel friction would make it slow down
I wil try it out if you supply the $$ LOL
Make a nice truck mounted chuck VAPORIZER

The Eargesplitten Loudenboomer, a .22 on a necked down .378 Weatherby case is said to have had problems findin' a bullet that'd hold together at velocities above 4500 fps. Unless you've got a supply of depleted uranium, you might want to forget this project.

No a fellow named Bob Hutton made it up. He was once the reloading editor for one of the gun magazines. He lived north of L. A. and had his own rifle range. You can read about the cartridge in P. O. Ackley's Handbook for Shooters and Reloaders, Vol II.

I recall the name. Didn't he write for Shooting Times? Varmint bullets fly really fast. We can all be supersonic that way. But there is a limit to what lead can stand up to, or some other material to engage the rifling. And then it has to handle the torque of the bullet spin.
Particle gun, anyone?

This was done years ago, don,t remember the results, and if you are looking for speed, there is a 22 cal cartridge in ackleys book that is faster than the Earsplittenloadenboomer. Its the 22-284. It has a 15gr.bullet going at 6585fps. vangunsmith
