Mosin Nagant M44 polish in 7.62 x 54r proj. calibre
Have the Mosin Nagant M44 polish in 7.62 x 54r 1953, a minter, wish to start to rload this....am bounching round the exact calibre required for projectiles. Believe bore to be .310 or .311, not .308 as the 7.62 might indicate. I realise .308 reloads would be safe and reload alright...however have abit of .303 british stuff round which is .3105 cal. And would prefer to use. One of you nagant collectors/users out there must have a slid answer fro this...all response appreciated. Aron Carter, southland, NZ

Slug your barrel .
I had 1(russan) that had a .308 bore.
I use a .315 di round ball for muzzel loading and drive it thrue your barrel with a dowel or 1 piece steel cleaning rod and mic it to see .
If it comes out less than .308 use 308 bullets
My reloading books list a 308 bullet as what to use

Ruskie produced rifles should be .310. I've not found any postwar rifles that vary much from .310, but wartime rifles can vary a great deal, after all, there was a war on! All the Polish were postwar, of course. I've only measured a couple of those, and they did indeed run .310 as well. Slug your bore as outlined above.
My favorite jacketed bullet for the 7.62x54R for .310 rifles is Remington's 180 grain RN for the .303 and 7.7 Japanese. These bullets are alleged to be .311, but every lot I have ever measured went .3105, and work fine in my MNs. Your milage may vary, start low and work up, in case you have a tight throat/bore.
