Hello
I am new to reloading and I am looking at reloading .270 Barnes X 130 grain bullets. I think this may be a broad question I am asking but I need a place to start I guess. Who makes the best (most consistent brass) and which powder should I consider or start with. Thanks in advance for your feedback.
FYI, I have a Winchester model 70 Classic LT with a 24" barrel and pre 62 action.

I have found winchester brass to be most consistant and for powders I really like varget but have been having good results with H4895 but thats with my 308. I hear H380 , H4350, H4895 and varget are all excellent for the .270. If I was a beginer again and new everything I know now I would probably go with the H380 it being a sperical powder it meters much more consistantly then extruded powders, the H4350 is a small granule extruded powder which should meter well too. I think I would have deffinately recommend either H380 or H4350 for the beginner. by the way those are all hodgdon powders. good luck

I am down to loading 140gr nosler Accubonds exclusively. I really like them for accuracy and for performance. I load h4831sc. Use it for the 338 as well. have ywt to load the 06, but winter is coming and I have some match bullets to load for the old 1917!

I have always liked Remington Brass. I think RL-22 MIN: 57.0 grs. VEL: 3123 f/s MAX: 62.0 grs. VEL: 3254 f/s would be a good powder for the .270 Win. and a 130 gr Barnes X. Don't forget to start with MIN Good luck.

For a 270, I only like 4350. It really reaches the potenial. I have used Varget and IMR4064, but velocity was dismal. I mean I get 2850fps from max loads of both with 130gr bullet. Re22 and H1000, gets you up to the speed, but sometimes guns don't like it. Its worth trying.
As for brass. I fortunatly had a buddy with a boatload of once fired Federal brass for 270. Its the most uniform I can find. Winchester nickel second, and remington on the bottom of the heap.

I agree with oldelkhunter regarding the brass. I especially like Lapua and Norma is up there too. I'm also currently using RWS for my 7mm Mag and it's uniform alright, but it's the thickest brass I've ever used which means I have to back down a couple grains of powder from maximum loads that I would use in other brass. Also, the primer pockets are the tightest I've ever come across. Seating primers in this RWS brass I've got takes some real effort. Don't think I'll be using any more RWS after this batch.
I also like Winchester brass. It's been good for me, but I'd put it third on my list behind Lapua and Norma. Remington would be my last choice.
