i recently broke my scapula (shoulder blade) and doc told me i cant shoot a gun that kicks till it heals. Early doe season is thurs fri and sat here in PA so i wanna go. I have a 223 which i have used 2 harvest deer b4. Right now i have some 55gr Sierra gameking HPBT's loaded up for it with 21.9 gr of IMR 4198. I was wondering if this slug would work on deer or if i should load something else up. I have no choice but to use the 223 so all u 223 bashers lay off lol. So whattya think guys??? [&:]

I don't you will get much more than thru the skin, with them? You should load up some more solid bullets?
If you can shoot well, head shoots only!!!!!!
Are you a Jr. or senior hunter?
Good luck,on your hunt.

first of all does your state alow the use of a .223 on deer? if they due more then likely there is a bullet weight restriction, most states require that you use a 60 grain or heavier bullet with the .223. If there is no weight restriction I would use the barnes x-bullet with that small of a bullet you would want maximum penetration and expansion to cause the most tissue damage possible and that x bullet will surely do just that, but your best choice would be a 60 grain nosler partition. I would personally favor the nosler partition over any bullet in this case.

Sorry to hear about your shoulder. But glad to see you still in the game. I suggest the 55gr barnes or partition. Drop em like a hammer. Your gameking will work also. Just be careful, and limit your distance to like 30 or 40 yards. make sure the shoulder is not in the way. If you have too, aim a little back and make sure you clip both lungs. I bet you get a pass thru and a dead deer if follow those guidelines.

My truck gun is a left handed savage in 243 win though I am right handed and all my others are right handed rifles. Its alot easier to shoot at coyotes from my driver side window left handed then right handed. Shooting left handed would be an even better option in my opinion then using a light kicking load.
