I would sujest trying Hodgdon Powder HS-6 . That is what I use and it is made by the same manufacture that makes Winchester powder I think . I use a Hornady 250 gr bullet insted of the Speer 260 gr .

Yes, I think HS6 is the same powder as Win. used to sell as WW 540.....
In my Raging Bull, I am using the Cast Performance LTB 260-grain gascheck bullet with 28 grains of Alliant 2400. It is a lot less powerful than the Winchester Premium 260-grain load, but gives a MV of 1550 FPS. This is plenty for deer or elk within 100 yards!

I just started doing some reloading for a Taurus 454. So far I've tried Hornady 250 JHP-XTP with AA #9 and with either CCI SR (400)or CCI SRM (450) my best 50 yard group is about 6-7 onches ( didn't measure 'cause I wsn't happy) I've loaded some with 2400 but they haven't been to the range yet. Any suggestions?? I'd like to shrink them to about half that size ... if possible.

I have about 600 rounds of brass cleaned, sized. primed with winchester mag primers, and the cases have been belled, so I'm already to start charging and loading. I'm using a 250 grain (.452) HP/XTP bullet by Hornady, ,, I have been using a 250 grain JHP Winchester factory and have been getting great accuracy, I can shoot within a 4" circle at 50 yards so u can see why I would like to get as close to the factory load as possible. I would stick to the factory loads except for the price.. It costs me almost $1.00 a shot with the winchester loads.. and I love to shoot so it gets quite costly. ,, re-loading should cut my cost by at least 1/2 that much.. I shooting a Taurus Raging Bull with a 6" barrell,, I purchased a load book from gander Mtn. BUT in the whole book it doesn't have any loads hardly for the 250 grain bullet,,so if any of u have any suggestions as to powder and loads I would be greatfull..

My Lyman manuall has that bullet in it, and it's the one I started with also So as far as an accurate load I haven't found what my gune likes yet. In the Lyman book it uses small rifle magnum primers ( cci 450) and lists only 3 powders 2400, AA #9 and IMR 4227 ... with the 4227 being the probable most accurate. I had the 2400 and #9 on hand so that's where I started.
2400 22.0 - 26.5 MAX
AA#9 24.5 - 29.0 MAX
IMR 4227 26.0 - 30.5 MAX and in their book listed as most accurate
Good luck
Note one thing the Hornady manual only lists the xtp mag bullets for the casull
