getting started....

i want to get started into reloading sometime soon....dont know when....its going to be spurr of the moment...but i want to be ready when i find the cash laying around...the main reason is because i want to load up light varmit bullets for my 3006 to hunt groundhogs n such with....and load my own target and deer ammo....and dad shoots 3006 too...and 8mm mauser...he has 4 rifles so far in 8mm..and i know i can make him some better shooting better performing loads then what he can buy....so that would be nice.....so i know me reloading is worthwhile.....i wont load ALOT...maybe 1000rds a year tops.....and dont need GREAT stuff to get started...im 17 now and havea car payment thanx to somone hitting me and totaling the car i did pay for in full and my parents let me buy my uncles jimmy from him and hes lettimg me pay him monthyl....isnt bad...but i dont have much to spend....but i am saving alot up for inspection and everything in september...and should have more then enough left over to get my reloading equiptment....this year i just want to get started...enough to get my varmit bullets loaded for spring...and maybe have deer loads for atleast me by november....then next year i can upgrade...i was thinking of the lee anaversary kit to start out with....just to get me loading and learning...but what else do i need to get decint loads?? i am an accuracy guy...shooting chucks at fairly far ranges...few hundred yards atleast.....but i know cheap equipment wont get me the best results but close..but what else do i need for me to get stared besides the kit? what manual should i get? i want to shoot hornadys vmax bullets.....then probably sieeras for deer.....maybe noslers for dad.....do i need all 3 manuals to load them all? what are the good manuals and what should i get? i know i need powder...primers..dies....the kit.....but what else would you recomend i get?? i have lots of brass in both calibers weve saved over the years.....and dad said he will buy all his 8mm stuff so i can load him hunting rounds....but he wont trust me for a long time i bet......but what all do i need..theres so many gadgets and tools and cleaners ect ect.....i reloaded with my buddy once before...i loaded 40rds of 3006 for me and he loaded 40 300weatherby for himself.....i preped my cases on an electric thing....it spun all the tools around...and he told me what to do with each tool thing....and then he had a fancy electric dispenser that dispensed to an electric scale that told it when to quit throwing the powder.....neat stuff...see it all in cabelas.....very pricey...but nice....so i really dont know waht i need to do it the cheap way..but have a little expirience in reloading....i also loaded a few hundred rounds of shotshell......but thats diffrent i know.....thanx for the help... iwant ot figure out what i need before i have the money....so when i find the cash i can just buy it.....if not soon ill ahve it by next summer for sure.......

I started with the Lee Aniversary kit plus the C frame press that Lee was giving away with their reloading manual. This kit has just about everything you need to get started and is o.k. for the money. I have loaded a lot of rounds on it and was pleased. You will also need:
calipers
tool to trim brass---I use the Lee system (not included in kit)
reloading manuals
dies
bullet puller
Reloading is something you can make as simple or complicated as you want. If you reall get into it you will never have enough equipment.

RCBC has a good starter kit (rock chucker) cabelas usually has it reasonably priced. also you can definitely improve on the 8mm mauser that is the sole reason i handload, factory ammo is horrible for that gun, handloads are great, accurate and powerful!!!

dad will like the 8mm loaded up....he found some diffrent loads and said they are alot hotter then what hes been finding....i think he got european stuff or something and it was hotter....said it shot higher and he could feel the diffrence...i told him aobut how if i reload for him he could get alot more performance from it and better hunting loads....who knows what the military stuff will do when it hits a deer....its not too consistant id be willing to bet...so besides myself i can help dad.....he loves his mausers....(i am the original mauser in the house....i bought my sporterized 98k before he bought his military mausers) and i can outshot his any day....but a leupold and a nicely designed stock rather then the open military sites and wierd stock he shotos lol......cant wait....thanx alot

thats what i shoot for an 8mm, and since you mentioned you were gonna get the hornady book try the 150 grain interlocks they work great for deer and shoot 1/2" out of my gun easy, i load them to 2700 fps, forget which powder i think 4064(im 500 miles from home or id look). when i get home id be happy to look some data up or copy some data and send ya to help you get started if youd like.

Hornady 170 gr roundnosed bullets with 4064 work really well in my rifles- well except for two rifles- one I changed the geometry of one of the receiver rails slightly to get it to feed, and another that won't feed them and I won't bother to modify it as I have 20 other mausers that work well enough.
