I second the "RockChucker' kit to get started. I'd then look for a second hand case trimmer and tumbler. I still think you'd be in that $300- $350 range and be able to load most anything out there, and load it well.

Ballpark. Well, 120 dollars for bare min with lee stuff that I could match factory ammo performance on with no problems and it works just fine.
250 dollars for medium grade stuff. Like RCBS Rock Chucker, RCBS dies.
350 dollars nicely equipped convience items like the med. grade plus powder tricklers, decent set of calibers, tumber.
500 dollars for above RCBS kit plus high dollar dies, and a few nice calibers, and do dads.
800 dollars for nice power trimmer (gracey), nice electronic dispenser, redding competition dies, sinclair neck turning kit, sinclair concentricity guauge, good single stage press, and extras.
For progressive Dillion for rifle, it will cost you thru the nose.

You should be able to get good quality, ready to go gear, less a bench to bolt it to, for around 3 bills. Remember this, bargains in the reloading world are usually not bargains. Buy the best, without subscribing to all the bells and whistles and it will last you a life time.

When I first started I managed to get everything I needed ofcourse the basics and 2 die sets and even a brass tumbler. I spent about 220 bucks. Heres a list of everything I bought
Lee aniversary kit $65.99
Lee case trimmers $3.99 x2 (one for .38 cal and the other 30-06 cal)
Berry's brass tumbler $41.99
dillon walnut media $12.99
Frankford brass polish $5.99
frankford caliper $34.99
lee deluxe 30-06 dies $26.99
lee carbide .38 spcl 3 die set $19.99
Thats all the equipment you should need to get started though later on I recommend buying a different press especially if you plan on reloading a ton of ammo I would reccomend Redding's "The Boss" press. $89.99. The challenger press that comes in the lee aniversary kit is fine for getting started. Then ofcourse you will need powder, primers, and bullets.

Powder $16-$22 per pound
primers $16-$19 per 1000
bullets $7-$25 per 100
