Default Speer TNT 90 gr. .277 cal. range report...

In the "for what it's worth" category, I thought I'd share today's range experience with everyone. I've been doing a little researching here and elsewhere including some magazine articles (one good article in particular by Rick Jamison in Shooting Times) in my pursuit of a lightweight bullet for the .270 Winchester for use on coyotes. The bullets in consideration were the Hornady 110 gr. V-Max and the Speer 90 gr. TNT. I opted to try the Speer TNT first as the little 90 grainer kind of intrigued me as to if it would shoot well at around 3400 feet per second. The gun used was a Browning A-Bolt Stainless Stalker w/ 22" barrel. Well, to say the least, I was more than pleasantly surprised with the outcome! I shot 5 groups total @ 100 yards, four 3 shot groups and one 5 shot group. The smallest group was .656" and the widest group was 1.07" for an average of .908" for 17 shots. Not bad at all for a smokin' little flat base hollow point! The load consisted of Varget powder, CCI primer, Remington brass. (Thanks to Vapodog for pointing me toward Varget powder on a post regarding the V-Max bullet!) This will make a great coyote gun for the times that I don't want to save the fur. I plan on trying the 110 gr. V-Max's sometime down the road also using Varget powder. If the TNT's shot this good, I bet the Hornady's will shoot equally if not better. Just thought I'd pass this along in case someone else is looking for a coyote or woodchuck load for their .270 Winchester.

Thanks for the range report and I'm happy to help with the varget recommendation.

This must be a new bullet from Speer.....I didn't know they made a 90 gr TNT. All the TNTs I've tried have been solid performers and easy to recommend to others.
