Boys,I haven't been here for a couple of years.I found reloadin arrows to be alot of fun.Anyway, I have been using Hornady 139 flat based with Varget with absolutely no problems. I have some 165s that I would like to load up.Does anyone shoot heavy in their 7-08?I was thinking I might like a heavy option and am simply curious as to how this rifle (700 BDL) will shoot a heavy lead.Ron

nmaineron- I have a NEF Single shot in 7mm-08 Rem. I use this gun, with a 2-7X32 mm Leupold, exclusively for thinning out the feral hog population here in South Texas. The load that I have developed for it is using a 160 gr Speer Mag Tip. The cases are from Remington, I use CCI Bench Rest #2 Large Rifle primers, and 46.7 gr. of RL19. Case life is good, showing no signs of high pressure(loose primer pockets, excessive case streching), produces 1" groups, and chrono's @2650 fps out of a 22" pipe. I shot a big boar, 425 lbs field dressed, behind the shoulder @ 125 long paces, when hit, he took 5 steps and dropped. The boar messured 15" wide at the shoulders, he was slightly quartering awayfrom me, hitting behind the near shoulder, and exciting at the base of the neck on the far side........we never found the bullet. I dulled out all 3 of my skinning knives, when i got to the shoulder area. When we took off his plates( scar tissue forms as a result of fighting with other pigs), we found 3 .308 caliber perfectly mushroomed bullets that didn't even penetrate a inch. We could even penetrate the plates stabbing at them with a freshly sharpen knife! Out of my gun, the trajectory, sighted 2" high @ 100 yds, is 10 " low @ 300 yds. It is a good all around load, And the Mag Tip is one STOUT bullet!
