ORIGINAL: handloader1

I use a 200 gr. Barnes XFB in my 30-06 Sprg. @ 2600 f/s as a back-up rifle for elk season, or if I am set up at a tank. At 300 yds. I have 2035 ft/lb which I feel is sufficient for elk. At 225 yds. it should be sufficient for moose. Good luck.
Excellent load!!

Eldeguello:

If I draw a Elk tag this year, I hope I get a chance to use it. Good luck.

I would use my hand loads which are 180gr XLC (coated Barnes X bullets) at about 2900 fps. The X bullet expands to nearly twice its diameter and retains virtually 100% of its weight. This bullet would have no problem killing a moose.

Pace, what outfitter you going with up there? I went with Viking trail for two years. Never did get a big bull. First year hunted the full 6 days. Only saw 5 moose. Took a cow last day. A old cow at that. Tasted rough. Had to crock pot every bite.

Second year, hunted 5 days, and took a 4 pt. young bull. He at least tasted good.

Still waiting for a decent sized moose.

I have had great luck with 180gr Triple Shock's. Thats my next bullet I will be taking if I go this year with my 308.

Take a range finder. Those guides ain't too good on range and its so decieving up there. One year, I took 500 yard shots cause the quide said it was 300. I knew better. After ranging, I looked at him, and told him he was full of it. Average shot in camp was 200 yards. Quite itimidating with that wind up there.
