Default Question

Hey guys i was just wondering if i could get some imput here. Been reloading for a few years now and recently ive been finding that about the 15th to 20th hull once im ready to drop the shots i find the chargebar to resist alittle as im sliding it back to the right. How can i clear this out so it wont happen agian. I took the bar off and around the hole where the shot go its worn down from all the grinding. I use 7 1/2 for Sporting clays and trap reloads. It will act up maybe after the few shells then it gets easy agian.

Thanks In Advance,
Raves

It would help if you told us what kind of reloader you are using. I had a similar problem with my MEC. 600. It turned out to be a small piece of shot had gotten between the top of the bar and the chanel in which it is held. To cure it remove the bar and look for any small piece of shot. Check that the rubber gromets are still in the bottom of the caps, these help to keep the shot pellets from shearing as the bar is being slid. Thats what solved my problem I bet yours will be something similar. Another cause could be powder binding the same area. If you are using a fine ball powder MEC has a small brass shim washer which goes between the bar and the cap(under the rubber washer), the theroy is to stop the fine powder from getting on top of the bar. If there are small amounts of spilled powder on top of your loading bench as you reload this could be your problem.

Im sorry for not posting the model earlier Big but yes its a Mec Jr single stage. Thanks for the reply bud, ill give it a look over tonight before i reload some hulls. Do i need to worry about the bar where its grounded down abit or is that just normal wear over the years?

I have not noticed any wear on my bars. Several years ago(got my mec in 64) I switched to a universal bar( 1982). Which is adjustable for powder and shot charge. That way if there is a special on a powder I can buy in bulk and load away and not wory about picking up a new powder insert. It also lets me try different shot charges. It's nice to try out some 1 oz. loads in 12 ga. even 3/4 oz. loads. Great for starting some one out shooting you can load up some light 3/4 oz. loads that won't kick the snott out of a new shooter.

i noticed the little washer in the powder hole was little worn down in the inside but that ring that you mentioned was still in good shape. Im going to get me a new washer tommorow. Yeah ive seen them universal bars before they looks interesting.
