Triple Shock-X
Has anyone tried the Triple Shock-X bullet yet? I have heard claims of velocity gains over the older style Barnes X bullet. If you have any chrony data to back up this statement please let me know.

RE: Triple Shock-X
When I use up all my XLC coated X bullets I will try the Triple Shocks.

RE: Triple Shock-X
I reloaded the 180gr triple shock for my 300 RUM. I get 3430 fps with no high pressure signs. I love the round. I have taken one sheep and two mulies with it. All one shot kills and over 300 yards. I bough the gun and relaoded for elk, but as of yet have not gotten on the elk. I guess I will wait till next year. My groups are less than 1 inch at 100 yards.

RE: Triple Shock-X
Sup I will let you know how mine do. I just got 2 boxes of 150 Lazerheads (Lazzeroni' s name for the Triple Shock) to try in my Warbird. Reports of .5" groups @ 100yds should be expected for this round (velocity is a touch over 3800fps from my gun). I am replacing my 130 grain Barnes X bullets at around 3950 which only shot 1.5" groups at 100. These new bullets from Barnes are VERY promising and all reports from those I' ve seen that have used them, are nothing but rave reviews. It seems as tho the awesome Xbullet performance has finally been mated to GameMaster accuracy. I' m going to shoot them out to 400yds this weekend (between smokepoles hunts!) and hope to have great news to give you next week.
WHACK EM WHERE THEY STAND!!! ;) RA |

lol X, yep I call it a " BEEP BEEP ZIP BANG" load!!!:D
Now if I can just talk my buds with Firebirds into trying the 120 Lazerheads, RA |
RE: Triple Shock-X
What are you getting out of a 180 grain load, RedAllison? Must be a kicker:D.

RE: Triple Shock-X
Barnes I dont know, have never fired a 180 from my gun yet (just wait til I return to NM and chase Gilamonsters with it tho!). John Lazzeroni loads a " accuracy load" in 180s that averages in the mid 3400s. He has a 180 " high velocity load" that gets in the upper 3500s (can you say " LIGHTS OUT" Bullwinkle?). I have a good buddy that bought a Savage/Lazzaroni Patriot lastyear and he shot 180s out of it lastseason (I have since gotten him some 130 Xbullets) and that small, light gun kicked MUCH harder than my big Sako. The brake tames my gun, it just is HELLACIOUSLY loud and produces a visible fireball in broad daylight. People ask what I see when I pull the trigger (thinkin it must be stars) but they laugh when I tell them, " Only a bright orange flash like a mushroom cloud, followed by an equally thunderous seismic shake" !!!

RE: Triple Shock-X
Sako' s a great rifle. I have a .30-06 in a 1972 Sako Finnbear. It' s never let me down. I also have a 300 Weatherby Mag that I just got a few years ago but, reading this post, I think I may be under-gunned:D.

RE: Triple Shock-X
lol X, the 300Wby is a FINE caliber and still one of my sentimental favorites. A handloader can make that cartridge do just about anything the Ultra and similar cartridges can.
I was re-arranging some ammo at my bros place today and noticed on the new 180 HighPerf Warbird loads that with a 28" 1 in 14" barrel the velocity is OVER 3600fps. That is SMOKIN and just has, " Red shoot me at elk" written allover it! Hopin to pop a 209cap in a BIG bucks breadbasket tomorrow! ;) RA |
