Triple Shock-X
Has anyone tried the Triple Shock-X bullet yet? I have heard claims of velocity gains over the older style Barnes X bullet. If you have any chrony data to back up this statement please let me know.

RE: Triple Shock-X
When I use up all my XLC coated X bullets I will try the Triple Shocks.

RE: Triple Shock-X
I reloaded the 180gr triple shock for my 300 RUM. I get 3430 fps with no high pressure signs. I love the round. I have taken one sheep and two mulies with it. All one shot kills and over 300 yards. I bough the gun and relaoded for elk, but as of yet have not gotten on the elk. I guess I will wait till next year. My groups are less than 1 inch at 100 yards.

RE: Triple Shock-X
Sup I will let you know how mine do. I just got 2 boxes of 150 Lazerheads (Lazzeroni' s name for the Triple Shock) to try in my Warbird. Reports of .5" groups @ 100yds should be expected for this round (velocity is a touch over 3800fps from my gun). I am replacing my 130 grain Barnes X bullets at around 3950 which only shot 1.5" groups at 100. These new bullets from Barnes are VERY promising and all reports from those I' ve seen that have used them, are nothing but rave reviews. It seems as tho the awesome Xbullet performance has finally been mated to GameMaster accuracy. I' m going to shoot them out to 400yds this weekend (between smokepoles hunts!) and hope to have great news to give you next week.
WHACK EM WHERE THEY STAND!!! ;) RA |

RE: Triple Shock-X
lol X, yep I call it a " BEEP BEEP ZIP BANG" load!!!:D
Now if I can just talk my buds with Firebirds into trying the 120 Lazerheads, RA |
RE: Triple Shock-X
What are you getting out of a 180 grain load, RedAllison? Must be a kicker:D.

RE: Triple Shock-X
Barnes I dont know, have never fired a 180 from my gun yet (just wait til I return to NM and chase Gilamonsters with it tho!). John Lazzeroni loads a " accuracy load" in 180s that averages in the mid 3400s. He has a 180 " high velocity load" that gets in the upper 3500s (can you say " LIGHTS OUT" Bullwinkle?). I have a good buddy that bought a Savage/Lazzaroni Patriot lastyear and he shot 180s out of it lastseason (I have since gotten him some 130 Xbullets) and that small, light gun kicked MUCH harder than my big Sako. The brake tames my gun, it just is HELLACIOUSLY loud and produces a visible fireball in broad daylight. People ask what I see when I pull the trigger (thinkin it must be stars) but they laugh when I tell them, " Only a bright orange flash like a mushroom cloud, followed by an equally thunderous seismic shake" !!!

RE: Triple Shock-X
Sako' s a great rifle. I have a .30-06 in a 1972 Sako Finnbear. It' s never let me down. I also have a 300 Weatherby Mag that I just got a few years ago but, reading this post, I think I may be under-gunned:D.

RE: Triple Shock-X
lol X, the 300Wby is a FINE caliber and still one of my sentimental favorites. A handloader can make that cartridge do just about anything the Ultra and similar cartridges can.
I was re-arranging some ammo at my bros place today and noticed on the new 180 HighPerf Warbird loads that with a 28" 1 in 14" barrel the velocity is OVER 3600fps. That is SMOKIN and just has, " Red shoot me at elk" written allover it! Hopin to pop a 209cap in a BIG bucks breadbasket tomorrow! ;) RA |
RE: Triple Shock-X
RedAllison-You were correct when you said that the 300wby would do " just about" anything that the 300ultramag will do in your last post.In the same way that the 300 ultramag will do " just about" anything that the 30-378 and warbird will do.

RE: Triple Shock-X
Stubs, while its a fine round I' ve yet to see a 300Ultra that pushes a 180 over 3600 a 200 over 3400 or a 220 over 3200. But after I had to forkout almost $200 for 2 boxes of ammo tonight for my Warbird I DID contemplate the $30-$40 a box Ultras with Scirrocos sittin on the shelf and wonder why? :D:D:D
Speed costs... How fast you want to go??? ;) RA |
RE: Triple Shock-X
RedAllison-With a 28" barrel the ultramag will push a 180gr to 3500fps which is just about 100fps slower than the warbird. The 300wby mag with the same length barrel will be about 100 fps slower than the 300ultramag.My point was that the 300wby is not the equivalent of the 300ultramag any more than the 300ultramag is the equivalent of the warbird. The gap between the 300wby and the 300ultramag is comparable the gap between the 300ultramag and the warbird if equal length barrels are used in all three.

RE: Triple Shock-X
Ho hummmmm.....Yawn.....my .30-06 still works fine for me.

RE: Triple Shock-X
' pig I shot the 150Lazerheads yesterday and WOW!!! They did everything I' ve heard they would do. At 100yds they were breakin the vertical/windage line on the 1" grided " ShootNC" targets I had (8" x8" ). Groups consisted of bullets that were touching eachother. I laid one 1" circular " cover" over 4 shots on the ShootNC and it covered all the holes plus the bright chartruese rings around each bullethole.
I then carried the target out to 400yds (Leica rangefinder verified). There was a nagging northeasterly crosswind that varied from 5-10mph but I tried to " read" it best I could and let fly with the best hopes. I could only watch some nearby sagegrass near the target to tell when there was any breeze downrange. The temps were in the lower 60s so there was only a slight amount of mirage present. The loads consistantly shot 3.5" low (2.5" high at 100yds btw). A couple of shots were actually 3" apart but for govt work the widest distance between allshots fired at 400yds were 5.5" -6" (all were 3" -3.5" low and left which would coincide with slight and variable crosswinds at that distance). The last shot was " perfect" in my book as the barrel was cool, the winds were' nt present over the entire range and the hole clipped the bottom of the target border dead on the verticle line of the center target. In laymans terms all of the rounds would' ve been in the breadbasket of any deer it was pointed at. And even at 400yds the bullet is still doing 2900pfs. My opinion of the new Lazerheads? AWESOME, superpig GET you some of the triple shocks and I cant wait to let this big mother eat... ;) RA |
