I know about the bullet/seating depth problem with this cartridge and the short action. And looking at the ballistics - they aren't too impressive.
You'd be better off with a 6.5x284. This was a wildcat that a few makers now offer. Or you could do what I do and get a good modern 6.5x55 and load it. Factory loads for the Swede are generally not loaded to the round's full capability due to the number of old worn out military rifles chambered for it. When properly handloaded the Swede is a great round!

Flags - it's not so much the chambering I want but the rifle. A Rem 600 Mowhawk or a Rem 660 or the newer Rem 673. All used in mint condition.

it will be a 260 on steroids, nothing wrong with them for most hunting except price and availability of ammo, the 600 is not a Mohawk, mohawks did not have the 5 piece stock or the rib, and they weren't offered in magnum calibers.

What are the barrel lengths?

My dad has one with the 18.5" barrel, too short IMO. He loves it though.

It's a good cartridge I think, similar to 270win performance I think.

A few years ago Remington was loading ammo for it at reasonable prices, I think when the WSM line came out. 120gr core lokts

I personally think I'd take the newer version of the rifle with the 22" barrel over the 18.
